Book: Because the Beasts Came by Madeline James

A strong, complicated FMC, a gentle but deadly general, a slow burn, and monsters that aren’t always what you think… I was HOOKED. 😭❤️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

I absolutely loved this book! I couldn’t put it down, and now I need book 2 ASAP!

I loved both Iryana and Pyetar. Iryana is such a strong but complicated character. She loves deeply but struggles to show it, and you can see how much her past trauma affects her. I really loved watching her slowly work through those feelings and start letting go of the things she’s been holding onto. Her character development was one of my favourite parts!

And Pyetar… a strong yet gentle general? Yes, please! 🥹 I loved their dynamic, and I can’t wait to see how their relationship develops and what kind of team they become in book 2.

The world-building was great, and I loved the Dirkii monsters. Although, honestly, the human monsters might be even scarier! 😂 The slow burn and the way the story explores trauma, family dynamics and found family made this such a good read.

Thank you to Madeline James for the ARC! I’m so glad I got to read this one, and I’m already impatiently waiting for book 2! ❤️📚
