Huge thank you to Vi Geary for sending an advance copy of this book. All opinions are my own and freely given.

Vi Geary is the next big name in police procedural/crime thrillers. There. I said it. Her first book Underwater was so damn good, that I absolutely jumped at the chance to investigate with Gale Blue again in her next book.

Heteronomy is not an easy read. Not because it’s not written well, it’s incredible. It’s tough to read because even though it takes place in the early 2000s, it’s tackling a subject that just recently found its way to the news headlines across the world. Even knowing these are events that happened in the past, it’s a stark reminder how far we haven’t gotten when it comes to protecting vulnerable young women. It all starts when Tess reaches out to Blue, concerned that her sister is being abused by a new boyfriend. As Blue dives into the case it becomes clear that it isn’t just this one woman being hurt, it’s many. Blue is racing against time to save Tess’ sister and countless other women who might be in harm’s way. Navigating a law enforcement dynamic that is not kind to women, much less gay women, Blue has to work twice as hard to make sure these victims get the justice they deserve.

Geary does an incredible job balancing an incredibly tough subject, Blue’s own vulnerabilities, and the people around her with their own mental health baggage. It’s a credit to her writing that you can’t help but get so immersed in Blue’s world, your own heart starts racing at the high action scenes. Once again, Geary knocks it out of the park. Sign me up, wherever Blue goes next, I want to be there. I am HOOKED.

Heteronomy hits shelves October 28 and I strongly recommend making sure it’s on your TBR for this year along with her first book, Underwater.
