Sam and Nick are best friends, single parents, and already a huge part of each other’s lives. Their three daughters are inseparable, and together they have created something that feels like a family, even if neither of them is brave enough to admit what they truly want.
When Nick asks Sam to help him prepare for a date with another woman, all the feelings they have kept hidden become much harder to ignore.
I really enjoyed that their story was about more than romantic tension. Both characters carry emotional wounds from their previous marriages, and the book shows how those experiences affect their trust, communication, and reactions to each other. Their struggles felt honest, and falling in love didn’t magically erase everything they had been through. The three girls were also such an important part of the story, and I loved the found family moments they created.
This was a tender, character driven, closed door romance about friendship, healing, family, and learning to communicate instead of allowing fear to make every decision. The mutual pining and all those uses of “buddy” made me want to shake Sam and Nick, but I was rooting for them the entire time.
