This is my favorite of the Hockey Guys series — a series I already love.
I am completely obsessed with Beck. The ultra-awkward goalie melts my heart with his love of 80s music and his tendency to blurt out completely unhinged thoughts — like telling reporters he talks to his pads in French (spoiler: he doesn’t even know the language). He’s impossible not to love — a total sweetheart and just so damn endearing. I loved seeing him rediscover the fun in hockey just as much as I loved watching him fall in love.
Poor Forest. He has really gone through it, deeply traumatized by a hookup gone wrong. He finds it incredibly difficult to trust and hasn’t felt desire for another person… until Beck propositions him. My heart broke for him as he navigated the highs and lows of hooking up with Beck. I completely understood why he struggled to let Beck in, even when it hurt them both.
I am down bad for Forest and Beck as a couple. Not only do they have an insane amount of heat between them, but there is so much tenderness. Forest, just by existing as himself, makes Beck feel like he belongs for the first time. And in return, Beck awakens something in Forest that he thought was lost forever. Outside of their romantic relationship, I loved that Forest becomes Beck’s biggest cheerleader — he knows Beck has what it takes to make the NHL and makes sure Beck believes it too.
I fell hard for this book. If you love awkward goalies, grumpy bartenders, and emotional healing, I think you will too.
