I really enjoyed Dire Kiss Academy: A Fresh Start . Giselle’s life was already complicated before she arrived but Dire Kiss brought a whole new set of problems. Between the different Orders, magic tied to emotions, danger in the forest and powerful families with their own plans, there was a lot I wanted to figure out.
I liked that the academy had more going on than classes and learning magic. The rivalry between the Orders leads to the Veilbreaker Games, while Giselle is still trying to understand her own powers and what she’s gotten herself into. As things grew darker, the story kept me invested.
Giselle was my favorite. I loved her humor and the way she talked back, though sometimes I wanted to shake her and tell her to stand up for herself! I hated seeing her appear weak in certain moments, but she was still a badass in her own way. Nutmeg brought warmth and humor to the story and Misty slowly grew on me too. I enjoyed seeing those friendships develop.
I hated the two brothers and their cousin, though I have to admit the brothers kept the story interesting. There was always another secret or complication involving them and I wanted to see where it would all lead.
And then I reached that ending. I hate cliffhangers and this one left me with so many questions. I need answers! This book gets dark, spicy and violent, so check the content warnings before reading.
