Kiss of the Black Flame was a wild ride filled with tension, yearning, and haunted characters. Helen Scheuerer always delivers with gut wrenching stories filled with found family, amazing characters, and plot twists. The worldbuilding was fascintating- Intricate but not overwhelming. The author always builds such interesting worlds with lore and rich history. It makes the story so rich.
The story was fast paced and one I dodn't want to put down. The FMC was strong without being hard hearted. She was fierce to those she loved but with an inner compassion. There was also some chronic illness rep as she suffers from chronic pain. The way this was woven into the story was so well done and really handled the complexities of having a chronic illness that no one can see. The MMC was hardened and scarred. His story was so sad but I loved seeing the dual POV from his perspective.
The ending to the story was absolutely gut wrenching (as expected from the author) and I cannot wait to continue the series.
