LJ Andrews has a way of weaving world-building and high-stakes tension that just hits different, and this was the most incredible conclusion to a duology I could have asked for.
Lyra and Roark have easily claimed a spot as one of my all-time favorite book couples. Watching their dynamic evolve from the sharp edges of enemies-to-lovers into something so deeply "soul-bonded" was a journey I loved every second of. Lyra’s growth in this book is absolute top-tier; seeing her come into her power while remaining the light that brightens Roark’s darkness was beautiful. And speaking of Roark—getting Skul Drek’s POV was such a game-changer. It added so much depth to the MMC, and the way Lyra interacts with his split soul is one of my favorite parts of their story.
The magic system here—tied to souls, blood, and bones—remains one of the most unique and compelling I’ve read. While the world-building continues to expand, it’s the found family that truly grounded the story for me. Thane, Yrsa, Brynn, Gunter, Auki, and Emi added so much heart to the high stakes, and even Kyrre the fara wolf brought a goofy, lovable energy that I didn’t know I needed until he was there.
Yes, there were a few twists I saw coming, but it didn't take away from the experience at all because the writing is just that compelling. It was spicy, it was morally grey, and the ending left me feeling completely satisfied—even if I’m secretly crossing my fingers that we get to return to this world and these characters again soon.
