In this world, what you see is rarely the full truth.
This book swept me off my feet and completely captivated my imagination. From page one, I was totally sucked in by the mix of political drama, the threat of dragons, and emotional chaos. This book is a must‑read for anyone who wants action, romance, and character drama so chaotic it should come with a warning label.
While there’s an immediate spark between the main characters (yes, a bit of that delicious instalust), the romance simmers with a satisfying slow burn. The enemies-to-lovers dynamic is executed flawlessly, packed with tension, witty banter, and genuine character growth. I was obsessed with how their relationship unfolded, always teetering on the line between trust and betrayal.
This world is brilliantly layered. There’s an immersive divide between the Outerlanders and Innerlanders, with deep-seated hatred and prejudice adding stakes to every interaction. The political maneuvering and deadly power struggles kept me on edge, especially as Lyra navigated the dangers of the Citadel, where every day is a fight for survival.
Lyra is an unforgettable FMC—strong, fierce, and stubborn, shaped by the hardships of growing up on the “wrong side of the Ravine.” Her struggle to trust and survive in a world set against her felt so raw and real. Talen, the ultimate broody MMC, was a standout for me. From fake-dating to save her from being “re-assigned,” to training her in magic, to risking his own life for hers—he’s always there, even when he shouldn’t be.
The supporting cast—Ezzy, Rowan, and Finn—brought depth and heart, creating a found family dynamic that I adored. Each character felt real and vital to Lyra’s journey. Special shout out to the wooden duck… IYKYK!
That ending! The twist? Violent. Personal. The kind of betrayal that makes you stare at the wall for a full minute afterward. I absolutely cannot wait for book two!
