I was soooo curious which fairytale S. L. Breaker was going to retell. But would you believe (though there is one main fairytale) that there were references to more than one?
Alice in Wonderland is whimsical, adventurous and surreal. S. L. Breaker takes this and runs with it!
Alice in Wonderland had a darker theme compared to some fairytales (though, aren't all the true fairytales pretty dang dark?), but S. L. Breaker manages to keep the darkness while keeping the overall atmosphere on the more adventurous side. Based after the Red Queen is defeated, Allie and Rabb (LOVE this twist) are estranged lovers who are pulled back together because Allie's forgotten past is coming back to destroy the magic of Wünder.
I have ALWAYS read or seen fanfiction about AiW where Alice and the Hatter are the couple. Having the White Rabbit (Rabb) be the MMC was quite the twist, and made this story even better!
The spice to yearning ratio is on point. This is a shorter book, but still manages to balance so many things perfectly. Spice, yearning, mystery, darker themes, fantastical and whimsical elements, steampunk and more!
I would definitely recommend reading this for a fun, out-of-the-box read!
