This was my first book I've read by Luna Larkin and I was not disappointed! I signed up to get this book as an ARC as I've been working on expanding my author base and what better way than to get to read a new book before it come out! I am voluntarily leaving an honest review of this book.
Beautiful Chrysalis is definitely a dark book. Do not skip over the trigger warnings at the beginning (there are a lot). I like to just wing it and jump into books but I have yet to come across anything that really is a no-go for me. But, there were somethings discussed or that happened in the book that were hard topics.
The book follows the FMC Kat while she navigates not only the ever exhausting college experience as well as family problems. While stumbling into the paranormal world of vampires. Kat's inner monolog had me cracking up. One of my favorites was "Jeez, Kat. Your imagination is way too wild sometimes. Just admit you’re fucking horny to the point that if you take your panties off and throw them to the ceiling, they’ll stick." I laughed way to hard at that moment. And this one "Either he’s gaslighting me like a god or that loose screw in my head unscrewed even more and went flying somewhere."
Then there is the MMC Orion. He is a vampire who has been around for centuries. He is wickedly smart and has found over the centuries a deep interest in the medical and science world. Throughout the book he sticks to being this tough doesn't care about anyone vampire. What he doesn't expect is for Kat to slowly and quietly wiggle her way under his skin. At one point he says "Is this love, what I feel for her? If a creature like me is even capable of love at all. I don’t know. What I do know is that I’ve started to hate the discomfort I feel when I see her hurt. When she doesn’t trust me, when she won’t say a word to me." I had a love hate relationship with him throughout the book because as soon as I thought I had a good read on him and his actual feelings something happened and I was back to square one. If he wasn't so stubborn and set in his ways a lot of issues that arise could have been avoided but that can be said for Kat as well. They are both strong headed and strong willed which is what kept the book interesting the whole way through.
I cannot wait for the next book to come out this one leaves you on one heck of a cliffhanger. All in all I definitely recommend giving this book a read!
