This is my second Tee Harlowe book, and oh, how I love the characters in this cozy fantasy series! Enid is a grumpy bog witch who has to turn around her reputation, and Nevan is the healer whose mother won’t get off his back about mawwiage.
The world-building expands beautifully in this sequel when our favorite sentient castle literally falls on top of Enid’s beloved, sentient and poisonous bog. As a recluse who loved living alone with her plants, Enid now has to deal with a sudden influx of townspeople. To make matters worse, she’s given an ultimatum by Prince Cillian (see: jerk) to fix her reputation or face exile. Enid’s want in being left alone is so relatable, and her grumpiness of this intrusion on her land is warranted. I loved finding out her back story in why she was isolated. Truly a layered character.
I loved Nevan in the first book, and his arc in this one is amazing. He has so much on his plate being the town healer while also researching alchemy and wanting to open his own shop. When his mother starts pressuring him about marrying, he proposes a fake dating deal with Enid: pretend to be his fiancé, and he’ll help her win over the town. I’m a sucker for the fake-dating trope, and this didn’t disappoint!
Watching this love story unfold while Enid naturally builds a community of friends along the way was so heartwarming. She truly learns her own worth in this kingdom. The story gave me so many warm, fuzzy feelings while reading it. 🥰
If you’re looking for a relaxing, low-stakes summer read, definitely pick this up! It has every single element you could possibly want in a cozy fantasy
