Rating: 4/5

Plot Summary: Jani and her sister Zosa escape their dreary lives to work at the legendary, traveling Hotel Magnifique. However, Jani soon discovers that the glamour hides unbreakable contracts and a sinister agenda orchestrated by the ruthless maître d’hôtel.

Writing Style & Pacing: Swift but "never feels rushed." Taylor uses clever imagery and vivid detail to build suspense.

Character Development: Jani is a relatable, "unwavering" protagonist driven by sisterly love. Bel, the "vexingly handsome" doorman, serves as a perfect foil with great banter.

World-Building: Masterful. Features a "French-influenced" aesthetic with dark, twisted magic (like porcelain eyes) and whimsical job-based abilities (like the librarian bird).

Emotional Impact: A "fantastic emotional rollercoaster" that balances the warmth of the romance with the bleakness of the hotel's secrets.

Themes & Messages: The cost of magic, the strength of sibling bonds, and the danger of "opulent curtains" hiding dark truths.

Content Warnings: Body horror (magical transformation), captivity/indentured servitude, and emotional manipulation.

Recommendation & Rating: A "truly charming and thrilling read." Highest recommendation for fans of The Night Circus or Caraval .
