A very good first book!

Book: Pretty Vicious by Lexi Davis

This is my first book by this author, as I am lucky enough to have received the ARC for the second book in the series. So I wanted to read it first, as those are not stand-alone.

I was not disappointed. The MCs were quite mature; I found that it reflected their experiences and trauma. They are characters who have suffered, who have been dealt some good cards, some bad cards and are trying to do their best with those, even within their limits. They learn to heal together.

The book itself is less than 400 pages; it’s a fairly quick read, but it’s dark. The first 60% of the book is dedicated to teaching both the FMC and us about the Order, the Brothers, the Sisters, their trials and their dynamic, and the trauma that plagues our MCs. It’s both simple in its organisation and complex in the way it operates.

The last 40% of the book is where the story truly picks up: all those scattered clues and little things from the beginning finally slot into place, and it moves forward.

Just a heads-up, the book ends on a cliffhanger for the second book. So I highly suggest reading the first book before you start the second one.
Overall, it’s a good book for those who enjoy reading dark academia, secret societies, and trauma healing.
