So, we all had that mythology phase as a kid, right?
This is not that story. This reimagining of the Helena mythos is fascinating. She's just a girl, blessed with a face, trying to do what she must to protect her village and whole of Sparta from a magical plague that's causing starvation. You know, just girl things.
Through trials to become Queen and maintain her status and protect the people, Helena tries to remain true to herself and the promises she made to her village, her family, and the friends she made along the way.
Feminine power, strength, and rage shine through in this story and made me not want to look away.
Fantastic creatures, magical world building, and character development kept me turning every page just waiting for the next awe-inspiring thing to drop my jaw.
I know C.R. Jane for sports romance but now? Now I know she can write absolutely anything. I can't wait to read more of The Spartan Flame Trilogy.
