Professional football player Baker finds himself in a bind when his nanny quits without notice. Sloane, a teacher recently laid off and in need of work, steps in to help care for his two-year-old son, Camden. Baker and Sloane have known each other for years through mutual friends, but once they’re living under the same roof, they start seeing each other in brand-new ways. Watching Sloane fall into life with Camden makes Baker realize just how badly he wants to show her how perfect they could be as a family.
This book was equal parts soft, swoony, and emotional. My heart was gooey watching Baker, Sloane, and Camden form the sweetest little family, complete with cookie baking and bedtime snuggles. Every forehead kiss from Baker made my Grinchy heart grow another size, and by the time they were officially a couple, my heart felt so full it might burst.
Baker is everything a cinnamon-roll-loving reader could want. His son is the absolute center of his universe, and that devotion was so tender to read. My heart hurt for him as he wrestled with his anger toward Camden’s absent mother and tried to navigate fatherhood on his own.
Sloane is such a gem — truly a Pinterest mom come to life. I was both impressed and a little jealous of her structured playtime and daily family activities. Even though Camden wasn’t biologically hers, the love she showed him was undeniable and so genuine.
And I’d be remiss not to mention the found family beyond their little trio. Baker’s Nashville Rampage teammates and their spouses showed up in all the best ways — planning birthday parties, trick-or-treating together, and proving just how strong chosen family can be.
