Sometimes you have to step back and enjoy the ride a book takes you on. This story did just that. This is a story of Viking traditions, cultures, loss, love and finding out just how far you will go for your family and people you love.
The world building and character development in this book was well done. It was really enjoyable to learn about the traditions and dynamics of the people in this world. Following the journey of our FMC, Elvara was a whirlwind of emotions. Her fierce ability to do what has to be done to survive and protect her people at all cost, all while watching her insecurities and vulnerabilities constantly weighing her down. Among the many characters you meet in this story, Vara meets the most ruthless of the Viking warriors of all, Darcke. This starts very much out as Enemies to Lovers with the slowest burn. This man loathes Vara and the clan she stands for. The trials this story puts forth are brut@l and you feel every step of their journey. I really enjoyed this story and watching the dangerous and brut@l MMC absolutely crave and bend for only one person in their world no matter the cost to his soul. The writing is immersive and vivid while bringing you on an emotional journey. The last portion of this book intensifies and had me turning pages not wanting to stop. For the first book in this series, I am excited to see where we go from here. If you love Trials, Enemies to Lovers, Banter, Ships that have a mind of their own, God and Rune Magic then you will love the world in this story.
