Threadbound was such an enjoyable read, with an enemies-to-lovers romance that quickly became my favorite part of the story.
Rosalyn and Kyren are powerful commanders on opposing sides of a conflict, with years of animosity between them. When circumstances force them into an uneasy alliance, neither has much reason to trust the other. I loved watching their relationship evolve through sharp banter, reluctant cooperation, growing respect, and an attraction neither particularly wanted to acknowledge.
What made their romance especially satisfying was how much of it developed through their actions. Rather than relying on endless misunderstandings or a refusal to communicate, their relationship required difficult choices, genuine vulnerability, and meaningful sacrifices from both characters. Kyren, in particular, surprised me. I spent much of the book questioning his intentions, which made his developing loyalty and affection all the more rewarding.
I also appreciated how Rosalyn's rare and dangerous magic connected to her personal history. Having spent so much of her life concealing a fundamental part of herself, her growing ability to trust someone who sees her power without fearing or condemning it gave the romance an emotional depth I really enjoyed.
The magic system was intriguing, especially the complexities of threads and how they manifest in each person. I would have loved a little more depth in the surrounding world, though, and the passage of time wasn't always easy to follow. The story remained engaging, but occasionally I was surprised by how much time had supposedly passed between events.
I really liked the narrative structure, too. The predominantly heroine-focused dual POV, along with chapters set years earlier, offered interesting glimpses into the characters' history without interrupting the momentum of the present-day story.
The ending leaves some compelling questions unanswered and sets the stage for a much larger conflict. While this wasn't quite an all-consuming, emotional soul-sucking story, I was thoroughly entertained, invested in the characters, and genuinely excited to see where the story goes next. I have a feeling the next installment is going to rob me blind, leaving me crying into my pillow.
Threadbound is an engaging fantasy romance with excellent chemistry, memorable banter, and a relationship built on more than attraction. 💜
