Please See Me Attached was a fun, fast read that reminded me not to judge a book by what I usually prefer to read. Contemporary romance is well outside my typical fantasy-heavy shelf, and once I stopped comparing the experience to books that are trying to accomplish something completely different, I had a genuinely good time with this one.
The banter and chemistry between Evelyn and Mike worked well, but what sold me on their relationship was the respect underneath the attraction. Mike recognizes early on that Evelyn is intelligent, hardworking, and undervalued professionally. I especially enjoyed watching him challenge and mentor her while she grew more confident in her own abilities. Despite the boss/employee dynamic, he shows restraint in their personal relationship and gives Evelyn room to decide where things go.
For such a short novella, the pacing worked surprisingly well. There was still enough room for some slow burn, and when their workplace relationship inevitably becomes complicated, I thought the professional repercussions were handled more realistically than I expected. The HEA comes together quickly at the end, but it was still satisfying.
The writing is very punchy, with short sentences and quick descriptions that keep the story moving. That isn't always my preferred prose style, but it didn't keep me from enjoying the story.
One thing readers should definitely know: when this book says explicit sexual content, it means it 😂 The shift into the spicier scenes surprised me because the earlier tone had me expecting something milder. Dirty talk and explicit language aren't really my thing, but the attraction between the characters was well established, and the intimate relationship felt consistent with who they were rather than added simply for shock value. I think there was maybe one encounter that felt unnecessary to the plot itself.
If you usually read heavier or longer books and want something quick between them, this makes a fun little palate cleanser (with a heavy dose of seasoning) 🌶️😂
(I received a review copy of this book. All opinions are my own.)
