A Lullaby of Thieves and Tea is a fantasy adventure about Azhra, a young assassin trying to survive after a job goes wrong, and Ithráin, the powerful wizard who becomes the last person she expects to trust.
I loved this world so much. The magic, the solar powered details, the magical creatures, the Skyborne Archive and the whole journey made the story feel special from the beginning. Every place they visited had its own personality, and I enjoyed discovering more of the world alongside Azhra.
Azhra was such a great main character. She is a badass assassin who knows how to survive, but she can also be funny without even trying. I loved seeing her slowly learn that she does not have to face everything alone. She stays stubborn and sharp, but little by little she starts allowing herself to accept kindness, friendship and the possibility of a real home.
Ithráin was my favorite kind of mentor and protector. He is patient with Azhra, but he never treats her like she is weak or tries to control her. He is also a total badass when anyone threatens her, while still carrying his tea around like nothing happened. Their relationship was one of my favorite parts of the book.
The ending made me happy for Azhra while also making me ready to see what comes next. If you enjoy fantasy with magic, humor, found family, a strong main character, and an amazing mentor bond, I definitely recommend this one.
