An adorable sunshine FMC and a broody grumpy bodyguard MMC, a recipe for a must-read for me!
Niamh is shaken when her magical home is destroyed and she and her sassy bookwyrm Morton are alone. Until along comes Wolfe who is determined to "rescue" her and deliver her to his Prince, the one she is supposedly possibly destined to marry in order to save their world. When they arrive and she discovers the castle is sentient, and has opinions about future brides, she's determined to prove she's worthy to stay.
This is a super cute and cosy tale with magical library witchy bookworm (wyrm!) vibes, but there is some real tension and danger involved, and the story of this world is just beginning. I read the ebook but also listened along to the audio book in some parts and the narration was fantastic, Morton of course was just as sassy as one would expect.
I loved the Grumpy v Sunshine elements, but also that the characters are in their 30s and a little more set in the world and their ways. This is the first in the series and I'm excited to read the future books to see what happens next!
