Stepbrothers? Yes, please. Hanlon and Stone haven’t spoken in years, but the second they’re back in the same space, the tension is immediate. What starts as resentment spirals into something neither of them can ignore. The push and pull? Unreal. The chemistry? SCORCHING.
Stone’s choice to cut Hanlon out of his life is brutal—but it makes sense. Parentification, even when it looks like protection, takes a toll, and his need to finally live for himself felt real. It still gutted Hanlon (and me), but the emotional payoff lands because of it.
Hanlon, meanwhile, is easy to root for. I loved how determined he is not to let his cerebral palsy define his limits—especially with his career—but that same stubbornness sometimes pushes him too far, and it hurt to watch him ignore what his body needs.
Their romance is messy, taboo, and completely consuming—but also unexpectedly tender. Watching Hanlon guide Stone through his demisexual awakening added a layer of softness I didn’t expect, and their united front against their parents? Absolutely swoon-worthy.
If you like your romance a little forbidden and a lot dangerous, Avalanche needs to be on your TBR.
