I was unable to put this book down and do any adulting for TWO DAYS! I paced on my deck for 2 hours while reading this at one point because I couldn't sit still. This dark romance is the type of book that you go into it with all 630+ pages thinking it will take me a week at least to read this if not more. LIFE SAID NOPE...hold my beer!! I read this gripping book in 30 hours with minimal sleep. The way I could not put it down is insane. I thought Ryat from The Ritual was it for me, but now I have met SIN and I don't know if I can choose.
This book follows Ellie & Sin, two people in the LORDS world who have also been in each others lives since they were young. Their families have always been close, and Ellie becomes best friends with Sin's sister. Through the years they both had an attraction towards each other, but never acted upon it. When Ellie was a teen, life changed for her drastically when her father died. Her mother remarries and this man is a monster...things were never the same for Ellie. Sin, born into a high ranking LORDS family, continues on his journey to become a LORD himself. Fast forward a couple of years and a pivotal moment comes when SIN is given an assignment that changes the trajectory of Sin and Ellies life forever.
I could go on to tell you what this book is about, but I feel like that leads to too many spoilers and this book needs to be experienced with little to no knowledge about them. This is how I went into this story, and I wouldn't change it for the world. This is my second Shantel book in this series, and I am officially a big fan of her and this series. She has a way about her writing that I love. You NEVER feel the pacing gets slow or that the plot goes off track. It's quite the opposite, she brings you into the world like you are SITTING FRONT ROW and gripping the seat the entire time. I appreciate her ability to tell the story in a way that makes you FEEL everything, good and bad that happens to theses characters. To me this story was about two people with so much trauma finding each other and knowing what they both need, even if it's a bit toxic. It works for them, and shows that sometimes life is about finding the person who understands and loves you beyond it, while showing you love has many facets and can also provide the healing you never thought you deserved. Ellie & Sin's story has many TW's, so be mindful of those going in. Ellie's story broke me so many times and her trauma is extensive, but I love her so much and glad I got to read her story and watch her begin to heal. I will 100% always recommend this series to anyone I can, and I am excited to start the next one... once I am emotionally recovered (if that's possible) from this book!
