I am unfamiliar with the story of Tristan & Isolde, so this was all fresh for me.
Tristan immediately drew me in. He is lost now that he is no longer in the military and is searching for a new purpose. He thinks he may have found it working as a bodyguard for Mark, who introduces him to the world of kink and dom/sub exploration. The dynamic between Tristan and Mark is incredibly sexy, and honestly, the steam between them could have carried the entire book. But then Isolde enters the picture.
When Tristan is sent to pick up Mark's fiancée, he finds himself immediately captivated by her. The two spend days traveling together by yacht, giving their relationship plenty of time to develop. Compared to the intensity of Tristan and Mark, there is something much sweeter and softer about Tristan's connection with Isolde, and I enjoyed seeing that contrast play out.
The spice is definitely the driving force behind this story. There is a lot of it, and the chemistry between all of the characters is strong. If you're looking for a romance where the relationship dynamics and steam take center stage, this absolutely delivers.
For me, though, I wanted a little more outside of the romance. The plot is largely driven by the spicy scenes, with relatively little action in between. While I enjoyed the reading experience overall, I don't feel particularly compelled to continue with the series.
