When Izzy starts spilling her wildest fantasies to an AI boyfriend app, she has no idea she’s really confiding in Callahan (aka Cal)—the hot, tattooed new security consultant at work who hacked her phone. Cal has been captivated from the moment he first saw her and is determined to be the man who truly cherishes her (unlike her boyfriend Evan). As Izzy uncovers the truth and the danger she’s walked into, he’s ready to protect her at any cost. She may have designed the perfect man… but he’s real, and he’s never letting her go.
With chapter titles like “Just Another Day in the Patriarchy,” “Did We Just Trauma Bond?” and “I Licked Him, Zero Regrets”, I knew this was my kind of book. Dark romantic comedy may just become my new favorite genre, because I laughed out loud multiple times. The marketing comparison to Lights Out was spot on.
The AI boyfriend concept is creepy as heck (don’t ask me about my robot uprising paranoia 😅), but totally realistic given the apps that already exist. And honestly? If I were Izzy, stuck with a complete dillhole like Evan (hate him with the fire of a million suns), I might consider it too.
Cal really did it for me. There’s something about a hot, tattooed man with “stalkerish tendencies” who’d burn the world down for his girl that I am 100% here for. Not sure what that says about me… but that’s what therapy is for.
Can’t wait for the next book about Izzy’s BFF Amanda. I have SO MANY QUESTIONS that MUST BE ANSWERED!
