The Geek and the Ghost by Cambria Hebert
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
The Geek and the Ghost proves once again that Cambria Hebert knows exactly how to write the kind of romance I love. If you're looking for books packed with humor, swoons, and plenty of heat, The Protectors series absolutely deserves a spot on your TBR.
Rett (or Pip, as Ghost calls him) completely stole my heart. We first met him in the previous book as Haz's best friend and neighbor, and I adored finally getting his story. He has the softest heart, the kind of person who would happily give you his last dollar if you needed it. He's also sassy, fiercely loyal, and incredibly protective of the people he loves. This plant daddy deserves the entire world.
And Ghost? I love him. A government-sanctioned assassin probably shouldn't be the funniest character in the series, but somehow he is. Beneath all the hilarity and lethal skills is a man who's ready to husband up Rett almost immediately. The only thing holding him back is the fear of dragging Rett into such a dangerous life, and honestly? Fair.
Together, they're absolute perfection. The chemistry is electric, balancing swoony moments with plenty of spice. But what really sold me was the emotional connection between them. Ghost gives Rett a sense of safety he hasn't had in... ever. And Rett gives Ghost something he's never really had either: a reason to live.
I also really appreciated the disability representation. Cambria Hebert does an excellent job portraying the realities of living with chronic illness, especially the frustrations of navigating a healthcare system where getting the care you need isn't always possible. It felt authentic and thoughtfully handled.
This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2026, and it completely lived up to the hype. I already can't wait to see where this series goes next.
