ARC REVIEW
Evan by @larktaylorauthor
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)
Thirteen years ago, Reid was a young human boy trapped in an abusive shifter family. He thought he’d found an escape in visiting shifter Evan—only to realize that wasn’t the case when Evan returned to his clan and left Reid behind.
Now, Reid has finally escaped his family and fled to a neighboring shifter land, where he should be safe. What he absolutely does not expect is to run into Evan again.
Evan didn’t understand the situation Reid was in when he left him all those years ago. Now that he does? He’ll do anything to protect Reid—especially with Reid’s family back on the hunt.
I really loved this hurt/comfort romance. Reid was so deeply wounded by how his family treated him growing up—not even like a person, but like property—and it was genuinely healing to watch him realize they were the exception, not the rule, when it comes to how clans operate and protect their own. And when Reid finally gave in and let himself rest in Evan’s arms? Ugh. I melted. I am nothing but a puddle now.
The clan dynamics were another highlight, especially the found family aspect. Watching the entire clan embrace Reid and show him that family is more than blood was incredibly heartwarming. And Evan’s parents? Absolutely adorable. Also mildly terrifying. Do not cross Mama June.
That epilogue, though. A cliffhanger of truly unhinged proportions. I am frothing at the mouth for Calan and Darius’s backstory.
