The MFC is going through a huge life change (divorce and betrayal of her best friend), and decides to pick up and move to her late Uncle Tad's mansion. Many believe the mansion is haunted, and she is set to prove everyone wrong until she finds her Uncle's last novel. She didn't know at the time that this was written by him until she started to piece the story together. The story that she reads from the novel is spooky and sets the scene for why people believe the mansion is haunted.
This story really took me by surprise! I love that it was a story within a story. It was just enough spooky that it kept you wanting to read it. I love books that keep me wanting to flip pages and not wanting to stop. Listened to this in one sitting. Highly recommend the audio.
