A bookshop, some vexing and hexing shenanigans, and the promise of romance...I'm in!

The start of To Vex and To Hex had me gripped. I was looking forward to a cosy, magical read, and in the grips of of peak spooky reading season too!

Don't get me wrong, this book has that vibe to it, but it is sadly overshadowed by my dislike of the FMC Lucy, who I found irksome, mean, and frankly, insufferable. She treats Grayson, the MMC, like an absolute doormat, and it really wasn't something I enjoyed or could get on board with. I can't see that Neena Noon would have intentionally written Lucy's character to be this dislikeable, without giving her a redemption arc of equal proportion, but the redemption was lacking. When the connection and spice happened between the two characters, it didn't feel plausible.

I did really enjoy the found family aspect and I wish the rest of the book had carried a similar energy. I super upset that this book didn't fit my tastes, as the synopsis and cover had me really excited.
