🌍 𝕎𝕠𝕣𝕝𝕕 𝕓𝕦𝕚𝕝𝕕𝕚𝕟𝕘, 𝕨𝕣𝕚𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕚𝕟𝕘:
A Flame Among the Seas picks up right where book one left off, and it even included a synopsis at the beginning preparing readers to be able to just dive back in. From page one, I was hooked. Action-packed, emotional, addictive, and impossible to put down.

Slight warning- the start of this book was heavy on ‘miscommunication’ - it’s not a typical miscommunication trope, as the reader we knew more than he did, but it was stupid.. it felt unnecessarily dragged out too, but that’s the only way i can describe it spoiler free, and it honestly it got to the point where being so agitated and frustrated began to ware on me. eventually something happened that helped lift some of this, but after that i honestly found myself feeling slightly disjointed.

The author beautifully expands upon the world introduced in the first book, delivering a sequel that feels richer, deeper, and even more emotionally engaging. From the very first chapter, I was drawn back into the story, eager to see where the tides would carry these beloved characters next.
The world-building is absolutely stunning. Emilia Jae paints vivid scenes of the sea, weaving together wonder, danger, and mystery to create an immersive reading experience. I loved discovering more about the magic, lore, and secrets hidden beneath the surface, and the sense of adventure never faded throughout the story.

The plot was nonstop in the best way possible. The twists kept catching me off guard, they kept me eagerly turning pages, along with the heartfelt moments that made me pause and appreciate how far the characters had come. I particularly loved learning more about the gods, history, magic, and the motivations behind the characters. Even the villains felt layered and fascinating rather than one-dimensional.

The pacing strikes a wonderful balance between action-packed moments and quieter emotional scenes. i will say, from the 60% mark things felt a lot better with the main characters/side characters & it was very action packed.

And that ending? The tension was building, everything was coming to a head, I was fully prepared for the climax and then— The cliffhanger was absolutely cruel!

🧝‍♂️ ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕤:
One of my favorite aspects of this book was the character development. The emotional growth felt genuine, and the relationships continued to evolve in meaningful ways. Whether through friendship, loyalty, romance, or sacrifice, every connection added depth to the story and made me even more invested in the characters' journeys. Their struggles and triumphs felt real, making every victory sweeter and every setback more heartbreaking.

And the multiple POVs? Every character feels fully developed, each perspective adding something meaningful to the story.

What I really loved was Esmyra’s journey in this book. Esmyra is vengeance personified. Unapologeticly wielding feminine rage like it was her personal . Her journey carries so much pain, growth, and healing and that it hit me harder than I expected. She is such a complex, emotional, and powerful character, and watching her navigate her rage, heartbreak, grief, and growing strength was incredible. i was really excited for esmi’s vengeance era, but, it just didn’t settle well with me. it can be tough to fully immerse yourself in someone seeking revenge built off them believing something they shouldn’t. and at times it felt like why on earth did this badass woman just decided to stop using her brain, stopped questioning everything and just went along with everything and anything she was told. Her character development felt so real, and I found myself rooting for her through every impossible choice she had to make but i just wanted her feel a deep connection to her pain & burn the world with her.

And then there's Draevyn Rowe.
The definition of devotion. The definition of loyalty. This man never wavers. Not once. His love never falters, lessens, or changes. he becomes her anchor when she needs one most.
Like I said, drae was saying and doing all the right things here, but, i also felt a bit disconnected from him and the romance in this book. i think it’s the fact i got pulled out of the story by the miscommunication at the start, so i didn’t feel too much depth for their love. I mean I know it in my brain, but I didn’t feel it in my heart, it just lost a bit of their spark along the way.

This is one brilliant saga, the magic system, the characters, the royal intrigue was all immersive and incredibly detailed. People that love feminine rage, secrets and betrayals and of course, a deeply emotional love story will love this. The overall story remained captivating from beginning to end.

I managed to finish it but it was rubbish. I won't keep a physical copy and won't recommend it, but it's a shame as the plot could have made a good book in another author's hands

It was OK. I wish I didn't start this one as it didn't do it for me as I struggled to read it. It had an interesting premise that fell flat but I had to see what happened in the end.

I don't regret reading it, and I will read the next one, but this one did have a few flaws. [These could be repetitive writing, gaps or plot holes, better character growth or world building, areas needing more detail]
Generally, the book lacked depth and became confusing. The plot resonated with me even though it annoyed me on the whole.

I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to the right people, but I wanted more! Sadly, it's easily forgettable with a few issues I just couldn't overlook/get past.

Good book! I loved it, but... I needed more! I really did enjoy it, but it had a few parts that needed more detail or added history/background or lore. But that's because the story or characters were memorable, and the plot was strong with brilliant twists. I would re-read if I needed to catch up for the next book and would recommend.

This is my God level tier. The book must be perfectly memorable. Even after reading 50+ more books, I will remember character names and emotions along with the plot. If there is a special edition, then I need to own it! If there is a conversation on books- I'm talking about this!
