I absolutely fell in love with Chloe and Sawyer's sweet, light-hearted romance.
I was instantly drawn to Chloe. She's determined to make her dog-training business a success after her ex-husband (total tool) orchestrates her being fired from his father's event planning company. She's fun and quirky without ever feeling over the top, and she's the kind of person who always finds a way to make lemons into lemonade. It's no surprise she's so well-loved around Darling Springs. Honestly, I wanted to be her best friend, hyping her up every time that COMPLETE tool of an ex made her doubt herself. After everything he's put her through, she deserves someone sexy and sweet... someone like Sawyer.
My heart broke for Sawyer from the very beginning. He's still reeling from discovering that his fiancée cheated on him, leaving him struggling to trust anyone again. He definitely earns his Mr. Serious Boss nickname... at least until Chloe crashes into his life. They meet at a dog's birthday party, hit it off immediately, and share one unforgettable night together. A month later, they're both stunned to discover that Sawyer owns the brand-new dog daycare where Chloe has rented space to run her business.
Neither of them believes they're ready to risk their heart again, so they try their hardest to ignore the attraction between them. Spoiler alert: it doesn't work. Their banter had me laughing out loud, the sexual tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife, and once they finally gave in? Whew. I am obsessed with Sawyer's confidence in the bedroom, and I completely understood why Chloe couldn't resist him.
What I loved most, though, was how naturally these two fit together. I mean, they literally have dog-related careers. Chloe encourages Sawyer to loosen his tie a little and embrace life again, while Sawyer gives Chloe the stability and support she didn't realize she'd been missing. They don't complete each other—they simply make each other better, helping one another heal from the hurts left behind by their previous relationships.
The feel-good vibes of this book were absolutely immaculate. Darling Springs is the kind of small town that feels like a character in its own right, full of people who genuinely care about one another without becoming over-the-top or quirky for the sake of it. The supporting cast added so much warmth and charm, and I can't wait to spend more time with them.
I spent this entire book laughing out loud and kicking my feet. Lauren Blakely has officially cemented herself as an auto-read author for me, and every future Darling Springs book will be jumping straight to the top of my TBR.
