I loved The Faceless Queen! Frankie Diane Mallis created a fascinating world filled with dangerous magic, prophecy, political intrigue, terrifying chimera, hidden identities, and forbidden romance.
Samara was such an interesting main character. She is an exiled witch princess who must hide her true face, and the magic she uses to disguise herself comes with a frightening cost. I loved the emotional conflict between the darker part of her powers and the part of her that desperately wants to love and be loved.
Her growing connection with Brennan added so much tension because he does not know her true identity or understand the mission she has been given. Their relationship is complicated by secrets, duty, betrayal, and a prophecy that could determine the future of their world.
The worldbuilding and magical history were especially intriguing. I enjoyed learning about the witches, the different bloodlines, the Book of Orsete, and the prophecy surrounding House Lafir. The chimera brought another dangerous and exciting element to the story.
This was a fantastic read with plenty of secrets and revelations. That ending has me very anxious to discover what happens next!
The Faceless Queen is book one of a duology, and I cannot wait for book two.
