A string of robberies, seemingly targeting female-owned businesses has plagued Shady Palms recently. The situation escalates when the owners of Choco Noir are brutally attacked, leaving owners the owners, Blake - dead and Hana - in a coma. Lila and her boyfriend, Jae (Hana’s cousin) channel their grief in solving the heinous crimes with the help of a diverse group of friends, family, and support from other businesses in the community.
Death and Dinuguan is #6 in a series of kitchen mysteries. I picked it up and began to read this charming mystery having no idea it was the end of a series, and was able to jump right in. I thoroughly enjoyed reading a story rich in cultures that I didn’t know much about. The author celebrates diversity through the characters of all different backgrounds, whether it be their ethnicity or sexuality. Much of the story centers around food, which is clearly a major love language in the story. If reading about these delicious treats left you wanting more, then you might want to keep reading after the last page!
