It’s hard to say I didn’t like this book as much as the first in the series since I read it so quickly. I think I liked the first better, though.
This is a beautiful handling of grief, of obligation, of belonging. I appreciate that the main characters, who are young and inexperienced, get things wrong a lot when it comes to strategy against older, more experienced leaders - I can’t stand when everything just falls into place for a half-baked scheme to work out with no consequences.
I didn’t want to put it down, even when there were moments that I didn’t like what was happening. I think this will end up being a great “set up” story - necessary on the path to the end of the series, but as a standalone not my favorite. I hope so, anyway.
Definitely some content warnings, but I think they’re all handled with care.
