I knew Stella’s story would be emotional, but I wasn’t prepared for how much I would care about her journey. After spending years trapped in an abusive marriage to Anthony, she finally finds the courage and opportunity to leave. Watching her slowly build a life that was truly hers was beautiful. She began to find her voice again, discovered something she genuinely enjoyed doing and met people who made her feel safe, wanted and loved.
Her friendship with Annie was one of my favorite parts. Annie is the kind of friend many of us wish we had. She was honest, supportive, protective and always there when Stella needed her. I also loved the rest of the people who welcomed Stella and slowly became her new family. After everything she had been through, she deserved every bit of that love and support.
And then there was Orin. Wow. He was patient, protective, respectful and caring without ever treating Stella like she was helpless. He gave her the space to make her own choices and never asked her to hide the difficult parts of herself. The way he supported her while carrying his own grief made me love him even more. Honestly, many of us dream of finding a man like him.
This story gave me romance, spice, suspense, healing, grief, wonderful friendships and a found family that made my heart happy. It also deals with domestic abuse and violence, so please check the content warnings. I definitely needed a box of tissues, but Stella’s journey and the love surrounding her made every tear worth it.
