This is one for my epic fantasy besties! And it is delightful!
The world building is sooooo lush. Gods, magic systems, prophesies, coups, family drama, and a romantic sub plot? This book has it all and then some.
Alethea is born with the power to speak the truth, and it is a gift and a curse ... mostly a curse with a mother like hers. The Queen of Lenorea is the type of mother we generally only see in the evil-step kind of mother.
Reaching her breaking point, Alethea flees and winds up right in the hands of Nakir Hasan the exiled heir and leader of the rebellion. Just her luck! Or is it?
TIME FOR THE BARGAIN! And it is a good one - she gives him her assistance, and he gives her the freedom she craves and away we go!
Now it's time for fights, intrigue, courtly politics, flirting, found family, and ... more prophesy??? The ride is wild, beautifully written, and so much fun.
The end? I knew it was part of a duet but like THAT ENDING? Waiting is not my strong suit and I wish I had the power of prophesy because I need to know what happens.
