I went into this with SUPER high expectations. I had seen Make Me Laugh everywhere, and everyone was hyping it into the absolute STARS. After the last book I read with that much hype failed to meet my expectations by about a 100-meter pole, I was nervous.
I had absolutely nothing to worry about!
This book was witty, hilarious, full of ridiculous puns, heartfelt, and absolutely cutesy. It blew my expectations completely out of the water and gave me everything I wanted - and then just kept feeding me. It was delicious!
What impressed me most was how genuine the story felt. This didn't feel like trope-chasing or trend-following; it felt like someone had a story in their heart and told it beautifully.
I loved the older FMC age gap, especially because her fear of rejection and loss felt lived-in rather than manufactured. The small mentions of sibling loss hit exactly when they needed to, making the warm moments even sweeter.
I genuinely cannot express how impressed I am by this book. It was everything I hoped for and somehow even more. I finished this completely satisfied and ridiculously happy!
